This “Foundation Hungarian” course is an ideal language-learning opportunity for those students would like to use Hungarian in their studies or daily affairs in or outside Hungary. Students proceed from beginner to intermediate level through 650 classes of language instruction. Developing phonetic skills, speaking and communicative competence as well as regular testing are integral parts of the language-learning program. By the end of the course, learners will know the basic rules of Hungarian grammar and the most important vocabulary used in everyday situations. All essential language functions and competencies will be put at their disposal.

Unique among Hungary's similar language institutions, this summer school draws upon a great and long-standing tradition. Established in 1927, it has grown to become the biggest Hungarian summer school. Each year more than 1,400 students from 30-40 countries are taught by a team of about 50 experienced instructors who specialize in teaching Hungarian to foreigners. Debrecen Summer School specializes in teaching Hungarian as a foreign language and diffusing knowledge of Hungarian culture. Its mission is to help its students pursue specific aspects of the Hungarian language and culture in depth. Disseminating the cultural values of any given nation is an inalienable part of teaching that nation’s language. Consequently, the cultural programs offered at Debrecen Summer School’s courses greatly contribute to the success of the primary task, teaching Hungarian. That is why most of our courses include events which serve to provide entertainment value as well as information about Hungarian culture and also opportunities to study the language in an informal way.

The School has all facilities needed for study and recreation during the courses including free internet access, a library and a meeting place for students. The classes are conducted by a few dozen experienced teachers while the cultural events organized for about 200 students are provided by special artists and experts.

Terms & Conditions: Debrecen Summer School

- Services must be paid in full 7 days before the course starts in order to complete the enrolment and secure a place in the course and/or accommodation.
- Bank charges are payable by students
- Students must be 16 years of age or over

Cancellation policy

- The cancellation needs to be communicated in writing to the school by the person who booked the course.
- The registration fee is non-refundable.
- There is no refund for any cancellation once the course has commenced.
- After a course has started there is no refund for any accommodation or other item booked.
- No tuition refunds are given for late arrivals, early departures or absences, for whatever reason, from classes during any course.

Refund policy

- 1- No refunds whatsoever are given for cancellations.

Visa refusal

- 1- No refunds whatsoever are given for Visa refusal.

Other terms

• If the number of applicants is not sufficient on the application deadline (minimum 4 and 6 for language and thematic courses, respectively), the course will only be launched if participants are willing to pay a proportional share of the anticipated difference in costs. For information about the relevant fees, see the course descriptions at our website. Should the required number of participants still be there by starting date, payment for this deficit will not be implemented.

Cancellation and refund policy
• The registration fee is non-refundable. If you cancel your application not later than one week before the start of the course and have already paid the course fees we will refund your money, less the bank charges.
• If you cancel your application later than one week before the start of the course and have already paid the course fees, we can refund your money, less a 20% handling charge.
• If you leave the course prior to the departure date your tuition fee will not be refunded.
