Kyoto Minsai's short-term programme: conversation-focused practical Japanese, 20 hours a week, in classes made up only of short-term students (about 10 students, maximum 15). Japanese class Monday to Thursday, in the morning (8:50-12:00) or the afternoon (13:30-16:40) depending on your placement test, and on Fridays field trips with cultural experiences (or extra Japanese lessons instead). The four terms start on 13 January, 8 April, 8 July and 7 October 2027 and last 10 weeks; you can join for 2 to 10 weeks from the start of a term (joining mid-term is only possible if your level matches the class). Students should be able to read and write hiragana and katakana before starting, as classes and textbooks are entirely in Japanese; a placement test is taken at the school on arrival. Minimum age 18. The admission fee (JPY 11,000) is payable by all students; learning materials and extracurricular activities are included; 9 and 10 weeks cost the same. Applications close one month before the start date. No student visa is needed: students come on a tourist or short-term stay, and the school does not issue any documents for visa applications, so please check your visa requirements with the Japanese embassy before booking.
