1. Program Purpose
The purpose of this program is to formally integrate a student’s language studies with organized work experience. This program consists of 2 components: an in-class study component and a work practicum component. The work practicum component has the objective of exposing a student to natural language in context in order to expand their productive and receptive language skills.

2. Number of hours Students are able to work
The working practicum must not exceed, in hours, the total number of in-class study program hours. (This means that if you were studying 30 hours a week for 20 weeks (30 x 20 = 600), the maximum number of work practicum hours would be 600 hours.

3. Payment for Working Hours
Students receive at least the minimum wage offered in Canada.
Minimum $9.75/hour (Generally students receive at least $10.50/hour)

4. Visa
Please contact the consulate/embassy closest to you for help in immigration matters.
Here is a list of the offices abroad: http://www.international.gc.ca/ciw-cdm/embassies-ambassades.aspx
If it is fairly easy to get a tourist visa to come to Canada, then we welcome you to apply for the required visas for this program.

Generally there are 2 types of visas that international students come on:
Working Holiday Visa: (Available only for certain countries) Please see the list of Countries on the following page: http://www.international.gc.ca/experience/intro_incoming-intro_entrant.aspx
For students that are not able to get a Working Holiday Visa, you need 2 visas.

First, you will need to have a valid study visa:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study.asp
And then you can apply for “Work permits for students – Co-op and Internship programs”.
www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-coop.asp
If it is not easy to get a tourist visa from your country, LanguageBookings will strongly suggest that you do not apply for the Language Coop Program. We would recommend coming for max. 6 months and studying in our language only programs with no work practicum.

Students cannot start the working practicum preparation or program until proof of visa is shown to us. In the case a student does not have the correct visa, they must wait a minimum of 3 to 6 weeks after their visa is received before any interviews will be set up (When interviews are included in the package).

5. Language Goals
For the work practicum portion of the program students will be focused on their listening and speaking skill levels and developing their fluency.

Students will be required to take tests throughout their work practicum. They will be required to be tested after every 200 hours worked.

6. Nature of the Work Practicum
BEC offers "General Language Practicum" – Our work practicum placements are typically unskilled/entry level positions, often in the service industry, the purpose of which is to give students the opportunity to learn general language skills and develop their fluency.

7. Industry Categories
Service and hospitality industry such as restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, hotels, ski resorts or retail stores.

8. Work Practicum Locations
For BEC-Rocky Mountains, work locations are generally in Canmore or Banff.

9. Attendance
Students must attend a minimum of 80% of scheduled language classes
If a student misses more than 20% of classes, BEC will give the student a written warning. If student attendance for the entire in-class study component is below 80% BEC will report the student’s violation of their work permit to Immigration Canada in writing. (Please see our waiver for further policy on attendance and what is expected from students)

You then select the course you wish to attend. You can add optional services, such as accommodation and airport transfer. If you would like to add these additional services, you need to go further down the page where you will find the section relating to ACCOMMODATION. You select the option of the type of accommodation you want (You do not have to select the dates here if they are the same as the course - they are automatically selected).
After the Accommodation, you have another option,  that of TRANSFER. This option allows you to book a transport that will pick you up at the airport and will take you to your residence or host family.

Also, the deposit you have to pay will be displayed there. You just have to press the Orange Button that says BOOK NOW and this will take you to another page to enter your personal details. The start dates of intensive and standard language courses are generally flexible. If you have some basic knowledge of the language, you will be able to start any Monday of the year at almost any school. If you are a total beginner, courses usually start once or twice a month.
You should be aware that language schools have more students in July and August than during any other time of year, which means that course fees, housing prices and the overall cost of living are often more expensive during this time. If you would like to book a course in July or August, you should do so very early: schools have limited spots and might be booked well in advance for the high season. Your chances to get your preferred housing type are also greater if you book your course early. Housing options near the school are especially difficult to secure in the summer and tend to fill up quickly.
Language courses during the low season (September to June) are not only less expensive, but also have smaller classes. If you are able to wait to take your courses during this time you will pay less for your courses, and  you may even receive better housing, since demand is much lower. Please, review this information within the language course details on the language school page.
You can find the availability status underneath each price on the school / host page. Nevertheless, if you submit a reservation request and your place is not available, the deposit paid will be 100% refunded.
